Over the last several years we have been privileged to provide
our grass fed meat to increasing numbers of wonderful families.
We have struggled to meet your demand for our product,
sometimes unable to fill your order for several months.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
Deb and I take your increasing demand as a great honor & privilege.
The most important goal, is and has been, to provide a quality product that strictly adheres to our protocol.
In order to increase the number of properly finished animals that you - our customers - need
is a lengthy and complicated process. It has taken several years to build our cow herd to the
quality of genetics that do well in our grass based system. We cannot simply produce more calves.
It is almost 3 years after a heifer calf is born before she produces her first calf
and then 18-22 months before the calf is ready for your freezer.
This is a business of long term commitment. We will simply not buy cattle from unknown sources to finish on grass.
Why We Don’t Buy Cattle From a Conventional Source to Finish on Grass
WE MUST HAVE:
Cattle that have never consumed grain. There are very few farms that adhere to this protocol.
Animals that are of “grass genetics”. These cattle convert quality grass and forage to muscle and fat.
Animals that have not been given hormone implants.
Animals that are healthy and have been handled in a stress-free environment.
(Animals that are put through sale barns or jockeyed from farm to farm may be stressed.)
Local animals that we can move quickly with little stress which helps prevents sickness.
Over the last several years, through our local farm grazing group, we have visited the farm of Sam & Deb Brown.
They have built an excellent herd of red and black Angus cows.
They do not use hormones in their cattle or chemicals in their pastures.
They have spent years developing their genetic line that does very well on a grass-forage system.
Sam and Deb do not desire to finish their cattle to market.
We have entered into a mutually beneficial arrangement to buy their calves in the fall and finish them with ours.
This arrangement will increase availability of our product, and enable us to retain
our best Heifers (females) to enter our cow herd. Over the next 2 years we will increase our cow numbers by 50%.
We will continue to hold quality standards of our cattle and Sam and Deb’s cattle to the highest level.
This is what you expect and deserve.
We will include pictures of Sam and Deb's farm on our website as we visit and observe.
